Malawi 2008

God had different plans

On waking we discovered that John had not been too well in the night, he was still physically exhausted from the day before (the kids and the sunshine had worn him out). We then heard an almighty scream and Leanne came running out of her room screaming, “Lyn, Lyn I’m going to university of Liverpool.” She jumped up and wrapped her legs around Lyn and everyone came running to see what was going on, to which Leanne started jumping and flung her arms around anyone she could get her hands on. At this point Daniel (our house keeper and part time preacher also) started work for the day, we shared the news with him and he gathered us round Leanne while we thanked God for the great news with an almighty AMEN at the end of the prayer. Some of the team stayed behind today to recuperate, the others traveled to the village of Nathanje. This was just a pits stop as we were meant to proceed to another village 25 km north, but due to African time the people we were meant to be meeting us at this village never turned up.
So we wandered up to the church and the roof building, the church roof has all the A frames completed, and we had the doorframes with us to be fitted that day. It is now waiting for the corrugated roof to arrive, hopefully this will happen before Sunday.
The children were occupied by another organistion, so we meet with Isaac and discussed some issues, and the team had decided to bless to the village community two female goats, with the understanding that they would be used for breeding to feed the village, especially the children. Isaac said that he would over see this and we blessed him with 9,000 Kwacha (£27), hopefully Isaac said, he would get these for the church blessing on Sunday (goats to be named Liverpool and Everton.)
Today Lynne braved the joys of an African “toilet ” for the first time but she was unwilling to post the details on the website (sorry guys.) Most of the team has sampled sugar cane in the last few days, which as been likened in taste to coconut, melon and icing sugar no one, can agree on the taste.

With nothing else to do in this village today we returned to the hotel for some R+R, this was much needed by the whole team. The women sat with their feet dangling in the pool catching the African rays, while the males splashed around doing poor imitations of seals with a blow up beach ball.
Today we had everything planned, but God decided we had earned a much-deserved rest, and none of us went to the intended village.
God night, God bless, speak to you tomorrow,
Lynne, Martin, Leanne and Rachel

P.S John is feeling better and currently in Nandos with Margaret, Dave and Ian
